Bone Biomechanics, Histology and Imaging Core

Overview of Services

Local Institutional support and a COBRE award have allowed the creation of the CMDR (Center for Musculoskeletal Disease Research) and the reorganization of pre-existing facilities into a new, improved, and centralized Core to serve the needs of the investigators working on musculoskeletal diseases at UAMS. The core is staffed by experienced personnel and operates under the leadership of Dr. Roy Morello.

Services and Instrumentation

• Imaging (Faxitron UltraFocus with Dexa, 2 Scanco microCT 40)

• Biomechanics (2 Electroforce 5500, 2 MTS machines)

• Histology (2 microtomes for methyl-methacrylate sectioning, 2 for paraffin, 1 cryostat, 2 embedding machines, 2 vacuum ovens, various histology staining)

• Bone Histomorphometry training (Zeiss Axioimager M2 Motorized Upright Microscope equipped with motorized stage, and fitted with Olympus camera, large monitor and Osteometrics software system)
